My work addresses the impact that we have on our ecosystem, primarily the impact that we have on the species affected by habitat loss and poaching. I use porcelain vessels as my canvas because of its pure and delicate look which gives my illustrations a clean background as well as representing the gentle and defenseless species humanity has harmed. Porcelain is also known for being difficult to work with and requiring extensive care, which I use to represent the fragile nature of our ecosystem and the thousands of species that we have pushed to the brink of extinction. My urns are painted with a variety of oxide washes, giving each animal a smoky or ghostly appearance, further commenting on how damaging we have been to those that we share our planet with. I would like my viewers to leave my work thinking about their place on this earth as well as the other species they share this earth with. We are doing irreparable damage to our ecosystem and I want my work to not only bring awareness to the species affected, but hopefully inspire others to take part in conservation efforts so generations to come can still enjoy these beautiful species.
